My name is Ashlee Spielman. I’m a writer, journalist, and passionate about storytelling.

I’m currently available for freelance work.

I’m based in San Diego, but most recently spent the last two years living on the Central Coast in San Luis Obispo.

After graduating with a degree in multimedia journalism, I spent two years creating and producing newscasts for KSBY News. Over time, I became more fascinated with news and writing and returned to San Diego to continue my career.

Print and Broadcast Journalism

Two years of professional broadcast journalism experience as a news/content producer for KSBY.com has taught me how to be a better writer. Writing for broadcast and online publications sharpened my skills and understanding of journalism.

Social media and website literacy

I helped update and create new content for KSBY.com for two years, Point Loma Nazarene University’s LomaBeat.com for one year, and Orange Coast College’s CoastReport.com for one year. This allowed me to understand new audiences in different markets, with a special focus on topics that impacted community members and students locally.

Communications

Eight years of hospitality experience in the food/beverage industry has greatly shaped my people skills. This contributes to my success as a writer and journalist because of the diverse people and perspectives I’ve been exposed to over the years in the industry.

Today, these are the top three topics I’m most interested in writing about for print publication: features, food & drink, and music. I’m also interested in other forms of media including podcasts, radio, and television.

My other interests include gardening, collecting indoor plants, spending time at the beach, finding new good food places, going to farmers’ markets, concerts, traveling, and looking at interior design inspo online.
